About Chinook Salmon Fishing:
First to enter our rivers are the summer red Chinook Salmon, and are typically available to anglers from Aug-Sept…see “BC fishing calendar“. The red Chinook Salmon average 20-30lbs,with 40lb+ fish available as well. This is mostly a Fraser River fishery, with “traditional” bar-fishing and plunking (fishing out of the boat) being the 2 most common, selective sport fishing methods.
Next, from about mid September through to mid October, we see the arrival of the BIG fall white Chinook Salmon. These brutes are much larger than the red Chinooks, averaging 30-40lbs, with fish up to 60+lbs available! They aren’t as abundant as some of the other salmon, but those with patience can be really rewarded with some incredible specimens….quality over quantity!
If you want to target BIG salmon, than consider the Chinook Salmon as the species of choice.
