Greetings friends and fellow anglers.
Winter is officially upon us here in the Fraser Valley….and although there are still some salmon and sturgeon fishing opportunities to be had, these fisheries are pretty much done for the 2012 season. Now we look forward to the days when we can escape to the river in search of the winter steelhead. Some are already in the system, and more fish are arriving each day….these are exciting times for the river angler that braves the elements in hopes of encountering a battle with this awesome river sport fish. Our winter steelhead season runs towards the end of April, so the best months are yet to come. This is just the beginning.
For those of you that were able to join us this past season, we thank you for visiting. It was great to see so many familiar faces again, and it was great to meet so many new ones too. We truly value and appreciate your business. We had some amazing ups and we had some not-so-amazing fishing lows as well, but in the end, it was another fantastic fishing season on the Fraser River and it’s tributaries. August and September proved to be one of the most challenging 2 months of sturgeon fishing I’ve ever encountered, however, October and November definitely made up for that with lots of big number days and some very large fish. Our fall chinook salmon runs were considerably lower than in the past 2 years, but on the other hand, the chum runs were incredible, providing both gear and fly anglers with some fantastic fishing. Not only were the chum extremely plentiful, most were above average size. For the 3rd consecutive year we’ve seen very strong coho returns, which is a great sign. Those that targeted these silver bullets were regularly rewarded with some beautiful wild and hatchery fish.
As we look ahead to the 2013 season, the big news will be the large pink salmon runs and the great sturgeon fishing that coincides with the arrival of these salmon. Some of the biggest sturgeon of the year get taken during this time period, so for all you serious sturgeon hunters out there, this is the time to start planning your trip. September is always a very busy month for us on a Pink Salmon year, so advanced reservations are highly recommended. As this event occurs only every 2 years, we really look forward to fishing during this time period, as it provides some of the best salmon and sturgeon fishing of the entire season.
At this point in time, I would like to extend warm Holiday wishes to each and every one of you. May this time of the year bring you lots of laughs and happy moments with your family and friends.
From our entire team at Bluewater, we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year!
We’re looking forward to spending many more fun, exciting, and memorable days on the water with you in 2013.
