World fishing traveler and our good friend Michele came to visit us again this year, in hopes of finding and landing a winter-run steelhead. Not only did he find one, he found multiple nice fish. Michele is currently working in Canada and is literally on a “Fishing Mission”. His goal; to catch as many different Canadian fish species as possible. He spent 21 days with us throughout the 2011 season, landing all 5 species of salmon and was just shy of the 250cm mark for sturgeon, which is his goal.
In July 2011, Michele hooked into a massive sturgeon that could have exceeded 11’, but after an epic battle that lasted almost 3 hours, the fish got away while in the process of landing it close to shore…it was a gut wrenching experience to have it so close for pictures, yet still lose it, but at least we had a chance to see it. It also cleared the water 3 times. Fish like that don’t come around very often, but he is a self-proclaimed “lucky” angler….. I’m starting to believe that this might be true as that was the first fish of the day on only his second day with us…… hopefully we can duplicate that again in 2013.
