Southwestern British Columbia has some of the largest salmon, sturgeon, and steelhead producing rivers in the world, and what better way to experience these phenomenal fisheries than taking a guided trip and having one of our fishing guides show you where and how to catch these fish. Our guiding staff is a group of dedicated anglers spending countless days on the water always in search of new hotspots and experimenting with new methods and techniques to stay ahead of the game. They're devoted to their lifelong passion for fishing and the outdoors and work extra hard to make sure your fishing trip will be a memorable one.

There is much more to a guide than just fishing experience. Our fishing guides have been carefully selected for their great personality, customer service, enthusiasm, positive attitude, and of course for their wealth of fishing knowledge and experience that they have each accumulated over the past 20+ years. How your day goes largely depends on your guide, but sometimes Mother Nature determines the final outcome. Chris Ciesla

Born in Europe in 1974, Chris was introduced to his first fishing trip at the early age of 3. There was something special about that day, because to this date, he still remembers it. Over the next 25+ years, fishing for Chris changed from a hobby into a passion, from a passion into an obsession, and now it's an addiction. You see, Chris has a problem getting off the water, a problem that quite often gets him into trouble with his lady.

From Cod in the Atlantic to Sharks in the Pacific, he has fished across the country for Canada's top game fish, some of which include bass, pike, walleye, musky, trout, steelhead, salmon, and sturgeon, just to name a few.  He is a competitive angler, always eager to explore new waters and experiment with new techniques. Although he enjoys fishing all types of water, Chris lives for river fishing. When he's not guiding, you will find him on the river, in his boat, fishing for that trophy 10'+ sturgeon or wading the riverbanks for salmon and the hard-fighting steelhead.

In his spare time, he enjoys doing outdoor activities with his fiancé, such as hiking, canoeing, camping, and skiing.  He also enjoys playing hockey and tennis.

Chris strongly believes in working with the community and is proud to assist several local groups and organizations through memberships, donations, and sponsorship. He also sits on several fishing related committees, representing both guides and recreational anglers, as a voice to help protect our fisheries. He is also involved in the Fraser River Sturgeon Tagging program, where he regularly contributes his time, knowledge, and efforts to help with the ongoing study of these magnificent creatures, that we know so little about.

Chris is a fisheries graduate (aquaculture) from one of Canada's leading Natural Resource schools (Sir Sandford Fleming College), with a great general background in fish and wildlife.

He has also spent 11 years working in different parks across Canada, where he has gained a lot of valuable knowledge and experience about working in the outdoors.

Chris has been featured in popular Fishing Magazines and TV fishing shows  and has also worked as the production assistant for one of Canada's most popular TV fishing series called "Sportfishing BC", hosted by Mark Pendlington. Chris also works in association with several companies in the fishing industry, promoting company products, as well as providing his knowledge in assisting with new product development.

His passion for fishing, his love for the outdoors, and his belief in a high standard of hospitality and customer service, are all elements that he strives to bring to every guided outing.  Having said that, he expects the same from his guides!

Chris is a full time professional guide and the Owner/Operator of Bluewater Rockies Sportfish Guiding Co.

Doug Scherk

Born and raised in the province of Ontario, Doug was fortunate to be brought up fishing his summers on the many lakes surrounding his parents' cottage.  As he grew older, he expanded into river fishing for salmon and steelhead and has now been river fishing for more than 20 years. He visited British Columbia to find new fishing opportunities and has never looked back. With his eagerness to explore, he was quickly able to learn the new waters and adapt to local angling methods.  Having fished for salmon and steelhead in 2 different provinces, Doug has the advantage of utilizing many more productive techniques for different conditions. When the fishing gets tough and local methods aren't producing fish, you can be sure to find Doug pulling a few of his "eastern" tricks from under his sleeves. Doug enjoys sharing his knowledge and teaching people how to fish, and his great personality and positive attitude are tough to come by.

For more than 8 yrs, he has also worked in different parks across Canada gaining valuable experience about the outdoors.

When not guiding, Doug enjoys digging around in the engine of his truck, dirt-biking, and wheeling and dealing with antique guns. In his spare time, he enjoys relaxing with his wife and the family cat.

We are fortunate to have Doug as a guide and we're confident his 20+ years of river fishing experience in Ontario and British Columbia will help him put you into more fish.

Ed Trainer

Steve Morrow

We would like to welcome Steve as our newest member of our guiding team.  Don't let this young guy full you, as he's been fishing our waters for more than 15 years. His passion lies in River and Stillwater fly-fishing, but he's a great all-round rod with lots of experience in river fishing for salmon, sturgeon, steelhead, and trout. Over the last 4 years, Steve's great people skills, customer service, and vast fishing knowledge have earned him the position of head fly-fishing guide at the prestigious Tsylos Park Lodge in coast central BC, where he's been guiding clients from around the world for trout and salmon on the Chilko River.

Steve is a graduate of Natural Resource Technology and is currently in the process of finishing his university Bachelors in Natural Resource Science. He has a great understanding of our local fisheries and is both very well educated and spoken in fish and wildlife subjects.

In his spare time, he enjoys fly-fishing, backpacking, traveling, and fly-tying. Some of his other interests include Political Science, Environmental Law, Marine Biology/Invertebrate Ecology. For several years, Steve has also volunteered his time and knowledge at the Spius Creek Hatchery, on the Nicola-Thompson System.

Steve's professionalism, knowledge, experience and his outgoing, enthusiastic, and positive attitude are all attributes that we look for in a great guide. We welcome Steve to our team and we're confident that all his attributes will make your outing with him that much more enjoyable.
