Having the knowledge and experience to fish over 160km of river, we will be focusing on different sections of the river at different times of the year, to ensure that we give our guests the best possible chances at success. Water levels, food abundance, food type, water temperatures, tides, weather, etc….these are all factors that we take into consideration for each and every trip, as the most minute detail can make a difference between catching a few fish or a lot of fish!
As usual, we expect good, consistent fishing throughout spring and into summer. Some of the biggest fish of the year get hooked during the high water months of June & July, so don’t be afraid of fishing during the high water levels in the summer! August- November is prime time sturgeon fishing. Hard to go wrong during this 4 month stretch, with excellent results expected on a daily basis.
Chinook Salmon Forecast:
We are expecting a decent year for our summer Chinook (reds) salmon returns. With the unusually low and clear water conditions we experienced on the Fraser River main stem in 2015, the summer Chinook fishery was off the charts…in fact, some of the best we’ve seen in over a decade! All indications point that we may be in for another low water season, so we expect August & September to provide some really good fishing for these fish, with bar fishing being the preferred sportfishing technique used at that time of the year.
Chum Salmon Forecast:
The chum runs never seem to disappoint our guests. It’s one of our most consistent big salmon fisheries. Fish should start showing up as early as mid September and will continue to push in until late November. If you want consistent hookups with large and powerful salmon, this fishery is for you! If you’re looking for numbers and clean fish, we HIGHLY recommend fishing in the last week of October or the first half of November! This is one of our favourite times of the year to be on the river chasing fresh chum salmon!
Sockeye Salmon Forecast:
Unfortunately, at the present moment, we do not expect any retention openings for sockeye salmon this season. However, should test counts indicate that we will have a larger than expected return, we may get a green light from the fisheries department. We will keep everyone updated on any openings.
Coho Salmon Forecast:
We’ve seen really good numbers of Coho salmon return over the past 3 years, and we’re hoping for the same in 2016. There should be a lot of fish pushing through our area from Sept –November, providing anglers with good fishing opportunities for this highly sought after species. Bar-fishing, fly-fishing, and spinning methods can all produce really good results under the right conditions. Both the Fraser main stem and its local tributaries should offer very good fishing for big, bright, silver Coho during this time period. Fresh fish will be entering the rivers right into December.
One of our best trout fisheries will begin in mid to late May, and will peak in the month of June. Large Sea-Run bull trout will be present during this time period, offering novice and expert anglers great fly fishing opportunities for these large and very aggressive species. If you enjoy fly-fishing for BIG trout, this is a HIGHLY recommended trip. Thrilling jet boat ride, stunning scenery, and great fly fishing…..a tough package to beat!
